Popular Events St. Thomas has competitive NCAA Division III athletic teams, with both programs regularly finishing in the top 25 of the Sears Cup competition, and these programs enjoy regular support (especially football and men's and women's basketball). Homecoming-Reunion Weekend, usually held in October, brings back alumni of all ages, with specific attention given to alumni from 10, 20, 30 and 40 year classes (the 50-year reunion is in June). Events include a sports breakfast, parade, food festival and football game. St. Thomas Day is held the first Saturday of March to honor our patron saint and namesake, Thomas Aquinas. The day includes a Mass, dinner and awards ceremony (with awards to professor of the year, senior of the year, distinguished alumnus, humanitarian and alumni volunteer). In 2004, a new Heritage Week was linked to St. Thomas Day to celebrate the university's history. Popular student celebrations include Spring Fling and Senior Sendoff. Christmas Concerts (five of them) are offered in early December by musical and instrumental groups, packing the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas. The groups also hold a series of concerts throughout the year. The St. Thomas Theater Department, a joint program with the nearby College of St. Catherine, stages several plays each year.
